Following on from our first moonphase in 2021, we bring a second generation with a new and dynamic interpretation of the night sky in the 37.05 Series 2.

Moving changes

Our new moonphase trades the former gradient blue-black textured dial for an anthracite one with sunray brushing and star-shaped holes: the holes are important as they are really luminous stars that appear and disappear with the changing phases of the moon. This is achieved by having the large rotating moon disk do double duty for both moon and dynamic stellar backdrop.

We retained the sapphire upper dial for the hour indices, moon mask, inversion, and now it also holds luminous HyCeram stars on its upper and lower surfaces to add further visual depth to the piece. Playing on the idea of lunar romance the accents of the moon, date font and stars are unified in a warm hue.

An interactive choice

A moonphase is an old complication, and paying tribute to that and the popularity of our new movement finishing, we have left the 37.05 Series 2 as a hand wind piece. Once again, offering owners more opportunities to interact with their watch. The watch is powered by the Sellita SW288-1 which is heavily reworked and finished in a style now familiar to our supporters since its debut in the 27.01 Ultra Thin. Bridges are skeletonized, matte-blasted and anthracite coated, with a contrasting portion on the main train bridge in circular-brushed rhodium and the movement offers 40 hours of power reserve.

Refinement of the next generation

The 37.05 Series 2 is now the fifth watch of the 37-series. The case design is complex to machine because of its multiple compound curves – such as the line from case side to lug tip, and is showcased with presence and sparkle using an alternating polished-brushed finish. It also wears larger on the wrist thanks to a significantly wider dial opening than previous cases. Wearability and comfort for a wide variety of wrist sizes is maintained with the same 38mm maximum diameter and 20mm lug width, however. In short: it looks bigger than a 17-series, but is just as comfortably wearable.

We continue our partnerships with Manufacture Schwarz-Etienne for construction, production and assembly; JeanRousseau Paris for the accompanying goat leather strap, and Studio Koji Sato for the pouches.

MING continually aims to improve aesthetics and functionality of products where possible; to this end we reserve the right to make changes prior to final delivery.

This guide applies to the following watches/ variants:

  • 37.05
  • 37.05 SERIES 2

Winding & power reserve:

  • The 37.05 is equipped with a hand/manual winding Sellita SW288.M1 movement.
  • This movement has a ~40 hour power reserve when fully wound.
  • The movement can be wound by turning the crown clockwise (away from you).
  • The movement is equipped with a hard stop, to avoid overwinding. When you feel a resistance or a point beyond which the crown will not turn, please stop winding.
  • Forcing the crown past this point will damage the mainspring and result in the watch requiring an out-of-warranty service

Setting the time:

The crown has three positions:

  • The first position (pushed all the way in) is where the crown should be for wearing and to ensure water resistance. This position is also the hand wound position.
  • The second position (one click out) is the date and moonphase quickset. Turn clockwise and the date will change. Turn counter-clockwise and the moonphase will change. Please note that the date and moonphase cannot be set between 9PM and 3AM. Attempting to do so might result in damage to these mechanisms and require an out-of-warranty service.
  • The third position (two clicks, all the way out) allows for the setting of the hour and minute hands. The movement is 'hacked' in this position and stops running. The watch is also not water resistant in this position. Once the time is set, please push the crown back in.

Other useful information:

  • The best way to clean the watch is with a soft, clean and damp cloth. We strongly discourage the use of any cleaning agents or solutions.
  • We use different formulations and techniques to apply lume on the dials, hands. crystal and other components etc. This results in a slight difference in the peak brightness and length of luminesence between the two. This is normal.
  • Modern luminous material requires charging to work effectively. Lume can be charged with direct exposure to bright sunlight or a strong light source such as a LED torch. The stronger the light source, the faster lume charges.
